From WordPress to technology partner.

We started with WordPress. Today we design, build and run demanding digital products for mid-sized and large companies.

Over the years the technologies and the kinds of projects have changed. What has not changed is that we take responsibility for the result and stay with the project after launch.

How we got here

2008

Community before company

Webikon grew out of the Slovak WordPress community: the wp.sk forum, the Slovak translation of WordPress and the first meetups. The people who later founded Webikon met while solving other people’s problems.

2009

The Webikon brand is born

Questions about WordPress kept coming, and Jano Bočínec and Peťo Nemčok decided to help full-time. The Webikon brand is born, along with the first webikon.sk website. It looked nothing like it does today.

2012

From a duo to a company

There are more projects than two people can handle. Webikon s.r.o. is founded, more people join the team and the first larger clients arrive. From the start we build on open source and on long-term work with clients. The same year we organise the first WordCamp Slovakia in Žilina.

2013–2016

Clients who stayed

Partnerships that continue to this day begin: Synergie and their HR platform, websites for Habitat for Humanity branches around the world, the Powerlogy online shop and, in 2016, HB Reavis, where a code review of the existing website grew into looking after the whole portfolio, including the intranet and Nivy Station.

2017

Beyond WordPress

We add backend frameworks and headless architecture to WordPress. Projects grow, and so do the demands on integrations. We stop doing only websites: web and mobile apps join the portfolio.

2020–2021

Apps for Across and the UN

For our long-standing client Across we build Across Connect in React Native, an app that runs on Android, iOS and the web from a single codebase. Next comes UN Sanctions App, an offline-first app for the United Nations. The project adds to our experience in mobile development and in international digital products.

2023

AI as another tool

AI becomes another tool we can build into digital products. We use it where it solves a specific problem or where its benefit can be measured. The same year, Webentor gets its name: our own way of building websites faster and with better control over the budget.

Today

A technology partner

Webikon is a technology partner for mid-sized and large companies. We help design, build, run and further develop digital products.

We take responsibility for the result. After launch, too.

We are part of the community.

We build our projects on open source, and through it we also help the developer community.

We contribute to open-source projects, organise and attend WordCamps and meetups, and share our experience with others in the field.
