# HB Reavis

> Since 2016, we have developed and run the main website of international developer HB Reavis: development, redesigns, maintenance and other group projects.

## A website we have known since 2016

We have developed and managed the main website of HB Reavis, an international real estate development group, continuously since the first technical review.

Since then, the site has been through several redesigns and facelifts, and the work goes on.

### One site for all of Europe

HB Reavis designs, builds and manages workspaces and property in several European countries. The website brings all of it together: projects, news, services and careers.

The project listing works with both country and sector, news comes in two formats (blog posts and press releases), and the whole site has five language versions.

**Six countries, five languages, one site.**

### It began with a code review

Our first task was an assessment of the existing site. We went through the code, named the technical shortcomings and proposed what could be improved.

Only then did we take over technical management, development and maintenance. We have approached every major change since in the same way: understand first, then change.

**Taking over a project starts with reading the code.**

### The partnership in six chapters

From the first assessment to today's ongoing development, each chapter added something that had not been there before, on the site or in the way we work together.

2016

#### From review to management

In the code review of hbreavis.com, we named the technical shortcomings and the room for improvement. Then we took over its technical management, development and maintenance.

2017

#### The site's new look

The partnership continued with a complete redesign and a new WordPress theme. Alongside it, we kept improving the technical foundations the site is built on.

2018

#### Expanding to more projects

Beyond the main site, we were also entrusted with the group's other digital projects. One of them was the website for the Talks conference, which we built on WordPress to a new UX and design.

2019

#### A group-wide intranet

Together with LB Studio, we worked on a new intranet for HB Reavis Group. LB Studio was responsible for UX and design; we handled the implementation and subsequent technical support.

2021

#### Nivy

On the Nivy project, we helped finish the website, handled its launch and took over its ongoing technical management and further development.

2022 – present

#### Ongoing development and maintenance

We keep developing and improving the main site. It has been through further smaller redesigns and facelifts. Rather than one big handover, this is work that changes with whatever the company needs at the time.

### Evolution, not a big redesign

A company website that has worked for years does not need to be thrown away and rebuilt. It makes more sense to know what works, change it safely, and clear technical debt along the way.

**We know the existing solution**

The project has been in our hands since 2016. We know the system from our own work, not just from the documentation.

**We develop for current needs**

New features arrive continuously. The site does not have to wait for the next big redesign to move forward.

**We improve the foundations along the way**

Alongside new features, we refactor older parts so the code stays in a state that can carry further development.

**We look at the whole life cycle**

The work does not end when a new version is deployed. We handle operation, maintenance, fixes and further development.

**Existing features have to keep working, even as the site changes.**

### Our ongoing work on the site

The solution runs on WordPress and has many custom-built features, so development and maintenance run side by side.

Technical management and maintenance

New feature development

Ongoing front-end updates

Refactoring existing code

Integrations with external tools

Smaller redesigns and facelifts

New business requirements

**Development and upkeep are one job.**

### Dozens of projects, two views

The project listing is the most content-rich part of the site. It can be filtered by country and sector and searched in full text, and the same selection can be viewed as a list or on a map of Europe.

For a developer, location is one of the basic facts about a project. The map is a second way to find your way around the portfolio, so it has to stay in sync with both the filters and the list.

### More than one website

As the partnership grew, more of the group's digital projects followed, both internal and public.

An intranet for the whole group

With LB Studio, we built an intranet for HB Reavis Group employees. They were responsible for UX and design; we took care of implementation and technical support.

Talks conference website

The conference organised by HB Reavis got its own WordPress website, built to a new UX and design.

Website for Nivy

A project we took over, finished, launched and have managed technically ever since. It has its own case study.

### Since 2016 without changing supplier

Over the years, several project managers came and went on the HB Reavis side. Our team stayed on the project, and so did the knowledge of why decisions were made.

So a new request does not start with explaining how the site is built and why.

**We know why decisions were made**

We know not only how the site works today, but why it is built the way it is.

**We make changes safely**

A new feature must not break the ones that have worked on the site for years. That takes knowledge of the whole.

**No new team to find**

With each new request, nobody has to study the existing system from scratch.

**The real cost of switching supplier is the learning curve.**

### A site that never got old

The main HB Reavis website has been through several redesigns and facelifts and keeps changing with the company's needs. Every change built on what already worked on the site.

The group's digital presence never stayed stuck in the year it was last rebuilt. Each change follows on from the previous one, so it does not have to be opened up as a new project.

### More long-term partnerships

### A site need not be finished at launch.

An important company website is worth entrusting to a partner who has known it for years: one who can change it safely and will not let it age technically.
