# We are Webikon

> In 2023 there were 14 of us at Webikon. Meet the people who were behind our projects at the time: who did what, and what they got up to outside work.

**In 2023 there were 14 of us at Webikon**. A small team to some, perhaps, but for us **bigger than ever before**. Among us are familiar faces and quite a few new ones. As individuals, we all make up the team that builds and looks after your projects. This is us.

**Jano** and **Peťo Nemčok** are the founders of Webikon. Most people will think of these two names when they hear Webikon.

**Jano Bočínec** is usually the first person a client talks to at Webikon. He is one of the founders of the **WordPress community in Slovakia**. You may have seen him speak at several WordCamps and then chatted with him at the after-party. Jano is our **supplier of good reading** and often shares an interesting article on Slack, whether on technology, personal development, productivity or other topics.

**Peťo Nemčok** is a founder of the **WordPress community in Slovakia**, co-founder of Webikon and the person behind **PlatobneBrany.sk**. He experiments in the fields of freedom and open source, and likes to pass on what he learns **at courses and conferences**.

Our **project management duo is Peťo Daňko and Marek**, who have every project firmly in hand. Hardly anything happens on a project without them knowing about it. We can no longer imagine a morning or afternoon stand-up without them.

**Marek Daňko** is the main link between the client and the team on most projects. He always helps find common ground in communication and a solution to the problem. When he has a bit of free time, he likes to come up with and try out new tools and look for room for improvement. That's partly why we were able to launch our **improved version of the Webentor service** this year. This year Marek also **got us moving and doing sport**: he set up a motivational sports channel where we post photos every day, whether we've walked 10,000 steps, spent time at the gym or simply been out in nature.

**Peťo Daňko** started working with us while he was still studying, and we're glad he decided to stay after graduating. He keeps Webentor projects running smoothly and also leads the support and maintenance team. He likes to get involved in improving processes, both for our clients and for how the team works as a whole. Besides being a driving force at work, he's a bottomless well of brilliant ideas for **team-building and other team activities**. He can always recommend a great bar or restaurant in the many cities he's travelled to.

The dev team is a well-balanced mix of **more senior professionals and enthusiastic juniors** with the drive and appetite to learn.

**Palo Caban** has been with us for more than a decade. As a junior at Webikon, he eagerly devoured every line of code his more experienced colleagues wrote. He fell in love with WordPress but gradually became interested in other technologies too, especially JavaScript and React. He always brings **new improvements** to our development process, looks after **our servers** and also runs **our Maintenance service**. Palo may reach us at unusual hours because, as a **keen traveller**, he is often on the other side of the globe. But not even the time difference stops him from giving his projects his full attention and enthusiasm.

Next is **Andrej Szabó**, for whom building websites is not just work **but also a hobby**. Besides putting in the hours on our projects, he spends his free time building **his own app**. Andrej is one of those team members who's great company on a team-building trip and never turns down an invitation to go out with colleagues. He's also full of surprises and **never says no to a challenge**. We saw that first-hand when, less than a week before the marathon, we were looking for a stand-in for the 10 km leg of the relay, and Andrej, despite not being a regular runner, said yes and **saved the whole team**.

**Boris Kakuta**, in his own words, got into programming by accident while building a website for the family business, which grew into an **online shop with a stock management system**. He later joined us at Webikon, where he has already shown off his skills on several projects. He also enjoys tinkering with hardware, and another of his hobbies is **timing races**. So you might run into him at various running and cycling races in eastern Slovakia.

**Šimon Cihra** has been programming since primary school. Even back then, he was improving games on his own. As he recalls, **he modded game modes in Counter-Strike 1.6**, for example, which is how he came **to build his first website**. Several years have passed since then, and he enjoys working on several projects at once, which helps him **avoid getting stuck in a rut**. Šimon is a fan of board games, so he's always happy to pick a new one and give it a go.

**Livka Potočňáková** worked on testing at Webikon, where she worked her way up to senior tester, someone we can all learn a lot from. After finishing her studies, she decided to stay with us and also dived into coding. Among other projects, she's part of the Webentor team and also takes care of regular updates to our own and our clients' websites. Livka loves heading out to a good rock or metal gig. Who knows… you might bump into her there next time.

**Boris Daňko** joined the Webikon team while still studying and quickly got involved in all our processes. In a short time he has shown his initiative on more than one project, and we're glad to have him with us. Despite his school commitments, he rarely misses a stand-up, which sets an example for us all. In his free time Boris also plays football; as team Webikon, we even had the honour of watching one of his matches live and cheering him on, which was a brilliant experience.

**Silvuš Cabanová** started at Webikon helping out on simpler projects, which was also her first experience of the world of web technology. That didn't stop her from finding her feet and working her way up to tester; she later contributed to the Webentor team too and worked on building several projects. Silvuš is currently on maternity leave, and we're very happy for her. We think of her, though, and we'll be delighted if she decides to rejoin us.

Remarkable creativity, a feel for trends and an eye for detail. That's our next trio, this time in design and marketing.

**Martin Tomášek** is behind most of the graphic design on our projects. He also had a stint at coding, when the role suddenly needed urgent cover. He and Palo remember that time as their Wild West period. But he returned to design, and we're glad he did, because his portfolio is a showcase of professional work. He keeps a careful eye on us sticking to the design manual and is always willing to explain things again. Martin also loves good coffee, so at team-building events he always surprises us with a great cup to go with breakfast.

**Nika Hricková** is the artist behind all the drawings you'll find on our website and in our posts. You can also see her illustrations in various other lovely projects outside Webikon, such as Bublina magazine. She has mainly helped us create graphics for our marketing, but she has also worked on several client projects. When Jarka gets stuck with some copy, Nika is always happy to help and get the creative juices flowing. She's also a nature lover, and her faithful companion is her bike, which she rides when she needs to clear her head or find inspiration.

**Jarka Putirková**, a member of our marketing team, has taken charge of social media and content for the website. Jarka came from a completely different background, and both IT and marketing were new to her. In her time at Webikon, she has learned a lot from her colleagues, who patiently explain things again and again. Besides creating content, Jarka also enjoys organising team-building events. She always looks forward to the moment the whole team gets together and there's finally room for photos and shared activities. Jarka often spams her colleagues with all sorts of surveys and questions, which everyone always looks forward to very much 🙂

We're very lucky to have people who want to keep improving, both professionally and personally, and in doing so move the whole of Webikon forward. You're an amazing team, and our projects are what they are thanks to you. Thank you.
